What a Mom Wants

Moms Share How They Want to Celebrate Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is a day to celebrate all mothers — but not all mothers want to be celebrated the same way! This occasion is a time to acknowledge all that the moms in our lives have done for us. And this is also a time for our partners in parenting and our children to say thanks for all that we do. Let’s be honest — we deserve to be celebrated!

So what do moms really want? I went to the source to chat with real mamas who were willing to share their thoughts on what would make Mother’s Day magical for them. There was one answer that I heard over and over again: sleep, sleep and more sleep. Raising little people with irregular sleep habits is exhausting. Moms really value the chance to sleep in and be pampered!
Here is what some mamas are hoping their Mother’s Day celebration looks like:

  • I would like to go into labor slightly early for my second. I’m due May 11th but a Mother’s Day birthday for my baby would be cool! Alison R.
  • Love, cuddles and time together. Deonna L.
  • I just want a day to myself. Dimita M (and dozens of other mamas)
  • A massage and time to shop for spring clothes for myself! Followed by ten hours of sleep! Stephanie M.
  • And a clean house (cleaned by someone other than me). Erin E.
  • I want to spend the day with my kids. Angela B.
  • Spa day (and I mean DAY)! I’d like to go sit for an entire day and actually read a book. Sarah D.
  • Something handmade from my kids that they made with my husband. Meredith J.
  • Handmade card from the kids and some time without the kids. Angela A.
  • For Mother’s Day, I always want the same thing: A day to do whatever I want CHILDLESS. I usually leave in the morning and come home at night. I shop, get my nails done, visit the spa, shop some more, wander the streets and sit at a Starbucks. Daisy K.

  • A good book, strong cup of tea and some quiet time! Jeannie S.
  • I’d just like to do something nice as a family — maybe the zoo or children’s museum. Megan D.
  • A day I can go to Target by myself for as long as I want. Anna L.
  • I want to spend that day with the special ladies in my life, my mom, sister, & my baby girls. Enjoying the special bond that motherhood brings. With some wine of course. Mari C.
  • A night away with my husband. Lindsay B.
  • Experienced mamas also had some sage advice to share when it comes to making your Mother’s Day dreams come true:
  • Just tell your significant other what your expectations are! You will not be happily surprised. You will just be disappointed. Your significant other is not a mind reader. Be clear with your expectations and it’ll be a great day for everyone! Anne S.
  • Truthfully, the things that cost less mean more! Elisabeth W.
